The publication of the Curriculum and Assessment Review marks a significant milestone for post 16 education and the wider skills system. It provides a clear, evidence based framework for the future, one that reflects the collective expertise of the sector and a shared ambition to deliver high quality learning opportunities for all.

We welcome the Review’s strong focus on maintaining high standards while creating a curriculum that is modern, inclusive and responsive to the world our learners are entering. Its sector engaged approach offers real confidence in the practicality of its recommendations and the impact they can have in shaping an education system that works for everyone.

For colleges, training providers and employers, the introduction of V Levels alongside A Levels and T Levels represents an exciting evolution. It broadens the choices available to learners and strengthens the connection between education and the skills that drive our economy and communities.

We are particularly encouraged by the Review’s attention to key areas such as Maths and English progression, technical and vocational learning, and the development of transferable skills and confidence. These are the qualities that prepare individuals not just for their first job, but for lifelong learning and success.

Equally, the emphasis on digital and financial literacy, sustainability and oracy demonstrates an understanding of what learners need to thrive in a changing world. These priorities are vital to building a skilled, adaptable workforce and a fairer, more inclusive society.

The Review is ambitious yet grounded. It builds on the strengths of our current system while setting out a clear route towards greater opportunity, equity and excellence.

At East Lancashire Learning Group, we see every day how education transforms lives. The Review’s recommendations reflect that same belief, that through collaboration, innovation and high standards, we can continue to create extraordinary opportunities for our learners, our employers and our communities.
